วัวตัวหนึ่งร้องไห้น้ำตาไหลพราก เมื่อรู้ว่าจะต้องถูกฆ่าสังเวยงานบุญ
วัวตัวนี้ถูกผูกไว้ที่ใต้ถุนบ้าน คนที่เดินผ่านไปมาก็เล็งกันว่า
ฉันจะกินตับ ฉันจะกินไส้ ฉันจะกินเลือด ฉันจะกินเนื้อ
วัวได้ยินเสียงปรารภของมนุษย์ จิตวิญญาณก็ห่อเหี่ยวเศร้าหมอง
เมื่อรู้ว่าไม่รอดแน่แล้ว ตกกลางคืนจิตจึงมุ่งไปหาท่านผู้ทรงศีล ที่มีภูมิธรรมสูง
ไปบอกท่านทางจิตว่า หากมีคนเอาเนื้อของตัวมาให้ท่านกิน ก็ช่วยกินเถิด
แล้วก็ช่วยแผ่เมตตาให้เขาได้หลุดพ้นจากบ่วงกรรมด้วยเถิด
อย่าได้เกิดมาเป็นสัตว์ให้เขาฆ่าแกงอีก
หยุดกินเนื้อวัวได้ เป็นกุศลเพราะวัวนั้นได้ทำหน้าที่แทนผู้เป็นแม่
ในบรรดาเนื้อสัตว์ที่ให้คุณมากที่สุด เนื้อวัวเป็นสัตว์ที่มนุษย์ควรยกเว้น
ไม่ว่าจะอยู่ในเชื้อชาติใด ศาสนาใด เพราะวัวนั้นได้ทำหน้าที่แทนผู้เป็นแม่ด้วยการผลิตนมให้ลูกกิน
นมวัวเป็นส่วนสำคัญในการสร้างมนุษย์ สิ่งใดให้คุณต่อเรา เราย่อมสำนึกถึงคุณนั้น
เราจึงต้องนึกถึงเสมอว่า วัวเป็นสัตว์มีบุญคุณ อย่าได้โหดร้ายถึงขนาดกินทั้งนมกินทั้งเนื้อ
กินทุกอย่างโดยขาดความเมตตาต่อเขา วัวเหมือนเป็นสัตว์เทพ ด้วยไม่มีสัญชาติญาณที่โหดร้าย
เพราะกินแต่หญ้า หากเราคิดว่าเหตุที่วัวกินหญ้านั้นเป็นธรรมชาติของมัน
นั่นก็แสดงว่าฐานะเดิมทางจิตของวัวนั้นเป็นจิตกุศล
"เมนูเนื้อลูกวัวย่าง"

วัวมีอายุเฉลี่ยอยู่ที่ ๒๕ ปี เมื่อถูกฆ่าตายเสียก่อน จิตวิญญาณก็ไม่มีที่ไป ต้องวนเวียนอยูในสภาวะก่อนตาย
คือ วนเวียนอยู่กับคนที่ฆ่าและคนที่กินตัวเอง โดยเฉพาะหากปลงไม่ได้ที่ต้องกลายมาเป็นอาหารอันโอชะ
